I was driving my 2001 Mazda 626 6 cylinder on a highway up a not very steep hill when it the engine shook and the check engine light came on. It stopped shaking when I slowed down, but it started again after I got a little above 2000 rpm or about 60 mph. I stopped and put it in park and started again, and the problem happened again for about 2 seconds, then went away. My only guess is the ignition coil. Any ideas?

Check ur ignition coil, ether 1 ov them is not working. Try to remove spark plug cables 1 by 1. Iv the spark is fine but stl shaking. Then check the following, spark plug, vaccum leak, temp sensor, catalic conveter/mufflur. Iv all fine then get a scan tool.
