When I come to a stop the car slightly smokes and smells of a terrible odor like burning oil or tar, but the engine does not overheat. This just started yesterday when I noticed the car slightly smoking when I was at a gas station.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running? Also, what color is the smoke and is it from the exhaust or from under the hood or vehicle?

Here is a link related to smoke from a vehicle. Take a look through to see if what is discussed mirrors what you are seeing.

Let me know if that helps and the answers to the aforementioned questions.

Take care,
Joe
