Should I buy this VW Passat or a Toyota Prius 2018

I need to buy a car for regular driving to work, social and commuting and long distance once in a while.

I am slightly confused between buying a VW Passat or a Toyota Prius. Mpg on a VW is almost double of Prius.
However, after-sales maintenance cost for VW is fairly high.

Appreciate your advice.

You are correct that the VW parts are a little more pricey but the quality in my opinion is better. Neither vehicle is a bad choice but I personally just would not drive a Prius. I would go with the VW not only because of the fuel mileage but the style as well. Again, you can't go wrong but with all resale or holding their value being equal, I would lean to the VW.
