I brushed the right rear fender area against a concrete pillar in a parking garage. The scratched paint area is about 3" X 5". Questions: Since my Ford is a 2011 model, will a paint shop be able to match the somewhat faded green paint? Will they have to remove and replace the fender? Will they have to repaint the entire car? Thanks!

Matching faded paint on an older vehicle can be a bit challenging, but a professional paint shop should be able to come close to the original color. Here are answers to your questions:

Matching Faded Paint: Skilled paint technicians at a reputable paint shop can use various techniques to match the faded green paint on your 2011 Ford. They will likely use paint mixing and color matching tools to create a custom blend that closely matches your car's current color. While it might not be an absolutely perfect match due to fading, the goal is to achieve a consistent and visually appealing result.

Fender Removal and Replacement: The decision to remove and replace the fender will depend on the severity of the scratch and whether the damage extends beyond the clear coat and paint layers. If the scratch is deep and affects the metal or bodywork underneath, the paint shop might recommend removing and repairing the fender to ensure a seamless finish. However, if the damage is minor and only affects the paint layer, they might opt for a spot repair without fender removal.

Repainting the Entire Car: Generally, a reputable paint shop will only repaint the entire car if the damage is extensive and affects a large portion of the vehicle. For a scratch that's 3" x 5", repainting the entire car is unlikely and unnecessary. Skilled technicians can perform spot repairs to the affected area without repainting the entire vehicle.

It's important to choose a professional paint shop with a good reputation and experience in color matching and automotive painting. They will be able to assess the damage, provide you with an accurate assessment of the repair process, and discuss the best approach to achieving a satisfactory result.
