2003 Saturn Vue Check engine light is on.

I took my car into the dealer to see why the check engine light was on. They told me that the BCM and the SDM have to be replaced. What are these items and can I do the work of replaceing them myself.

BCM = BODY CONTROL MODULE (vehicle's computer)

SDM = SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (vehicle's diagnostic computer)

These module's require special computer equipment to reprogram once they are removed and installed, you will not be able to replace these components on your own.
