2003 Saturn Vue Car running loud

My Saturn Vue has started running loudly when driving around town. Oil is full and clear does not look dirty and I am scheduled to have my brakes done this week as they are overdue. Change oil light comes on, but it is coming up on the next oil change within 500 miles. I live in the high desert and it has been very hot and dry lately so I want to know is there something wrong with the engine, the muffler, the transmission? I do not think it is the transmission as it drives fine and RPM's are where they should be but it just is driving loudly.

Exhaust would be a roaring sound from under the car, an engine noise would be a ticking, or rapping noise, what type do you have?

More like a ticking but mostly just running rough sounding. Definitely not a roaring sound

If it's hot where you are, you may need to use a better grade or higher viscosity motor oil, What are you using now?

Try going to 15-40 for extreme heat, also if oil level is low, engine will tick. When weather cools, go back to suggested oil by manufacturer. You are supposed to be using 5w-30!
