My 1999 saturn wagon was purchased from auction and does not have its original key, which may or may not be contributing to its problems, but when they car is unlocked the brake lights blink on off for about 10 minutes even when the car is turned on and running. The tranny needs to be rebuilt which I am doing very soon, but I want to know if they electrical problems are related to the transmission, they key, or a completely different set of problems.

First of all thank u so much for ur donation. The key has nothing to do with ur problem there's no chips in those keys. It sounds like u have a bad brake switch or it's miss adjusted. If u pull back on the brake pedal towards u will the brake lights stay off? What's wrong with the transmission that u think u need to rebuild it?Do u have any codes?Let me know.

The car basically has no reverse, you have to rev up the engine before it starts to inch backwards, the code I got was P0732A which I was told means Transaxle No 2nd gear.

For that yr and model ur input shaft nut could be loose if they get loose enough u will loose reverse and will have to rev the engine up to start to go into reverse.I would check that before u have it rebuilt. Pretty common for that nut to back off u can check the nut by taking the side cover off and seeing if it's tight. It's a in car check.
