I've just bought a 97 SL2 in mint condition with the exception of it sometimes not starting. It turns over and usually starts after a second or two. Sometimes I have to turn the key off and then try again and it fires right up. If I wait for the fuel pump to quit humming and the gas gauge to register, it's more likely to start. Yesterday, it wouldn't start on three tries with me giving no gas. On the fourth try, just as I moved the key back it fired. I plan to take it to a mechanic, but would like to have an idea of what they should look at. Thanks

Sounds like ur fuel pump is bleeding down when u try to start it that's why if u cycle the key and let the pump run more it will start better. Have the guy checking out ur car check the fuel pressure with the car not running have him watch the fuel pressure if the pump is bad the fuel pressure won't stay it will just bleed down. Very common for 97 saturns I have replaced alot of pumps for thy reason.I would also have him check the coolant temp sensor and the connector going to it if the connector is corroded have him replace the connector. Let me know if u have anymore questions an what they find.
