Recently my car seems to be lugging. When I go around corner in 3rd gear my car will start lugging as I accelerate. This is new I use to be able to be in 3rd gear go around the corner and not experience this. What type of repair is needed? OR should I be downshifting all the time?

Thanks

If that's the only time it does it then I would say down shift if it's lugging then you down shift.

It continues almost in every gear and I am not driving the car any different than before. The car lugs even in 4th gear at 60 miles. I did a fuel injection treatment at an authorized dealer but it still lugs. Could it be spark plugs or wires there is no engine light on?

It has 146,800 miles on it is it time to trade in?

Thank you

Does it lug in all gear's like when you start in first then shift to second etc like your getting up speed? If you had a engine power issue it should lug in every gear even when you take off in first gear.

Yes pretty much but not every gear every time but it has lugged at one time or another in each gear. Even in 5th just a jerking motion and I was going about 55 or 60. I know this is something new that is happening as I know my car.

Thanks

Then I would check to see what the fuel pressure is if the fuel filter is restricted your suppose to change the fuel filter every 30,000 mile's and by then there pretty clogged. Have your exhaust back pressure tested when it's hot and lacking power. To start with.

Thank you for your input. I did have tune up including fuel filter change at 134,800 miles and so it only has been about 12,000 miles. So I guess I can check the fuel pressure in any event.

Well my gear shift went out yesterday so I guess the lugging was either the clutch cable or transmission. Don't know if the lugging is a coincidence or the bad transmission caused the lugging. It is old car so may be time to retire it.

Thank you

Yes gear shift was loose and wobbly. It was stuck in a gear so you could not push vehicle. Car is in my mechanic's hands and I will let you know. My concern was the bucking related to the gear shift going out or was it just a coincidence? I am not going to spend any money on the vehicle especially if it gets repaired and still is lugging/bucking.

The bucking isn't related the the shifter if it was the cable that came off the sifter the repair kit is easy to installing and is like 25. So now your car is bucking you were talking about a loss of power. If it was cutting out or bucking I would be checking your plug's and wire's that's the most common problem for that. Use ngk plug's if you replace the plug's also take the plug wire's off your coil tower's one at a time and look for white powder those car's are known for that happening.

Yes I just got a call from my mechanic it is an easy fix the pin or bolt that holds the cable was no good he is going to replace that be about $80. The cable was ok did not need replacement. I asked him to check the plugs and wires for the bucking and he will test drive it. I will let you know. Sure is funny what a coincidence of this happening could of sworn they would be related.

Gear shift is ok now. Mechanic checked spark plugs and wires they were ok and the car still lugs and bucks has gotten worse last couple days. He suggested doing something to the fuel injection be $100. But I think at this point it is a hit and miss and I am not ready to start dumping money in a 15 year old car with over146K without knowing exactly what the problem could be. I have decided to retire the ole Saturn. It runs now so I can get something for it. It has been a great car with great mileage.

Thanks for all your help.
