I wanted to know how many gear ratios gm made on there saturn SL1 line because I found a SOHC compatable transmission that the 8th digit in the transmissions and my VIN number both are 8 but since some cars have different gear ratios I wanted to make sure its the right one before I buy it so I know it will work

If it's a 1999 SL1 like yours then that transmission will work fine.

Yeah better to be safe then sorry. If you have a 1999 SL1 and the transmission is coming from a 1999 SL1 then you will be ok with the gear ratio's.

Is it posibly to change out just the bell housing and the bearing behind it from or transmission to another or would you have to change it all because one of the bearings behind the two seals got loose and cut up into the bellhousing and I was wondering if I would be able to just switch the bellhousing and the seal behind the bell housing out. And how many different types of trannys did they make for a 1999 Saturn sl1 because we got the new tranny in my car now and it drive great in 1st gear but it will not upshift

They only made one 1999 SL1 automatic transmission. It sound's like your output shaft bearing went bad and cut threw the case I have repaired a few transmission's like that. To repair it you would have to replace the torque converter housing the output shaft and bearing also the output shaft because they get damaged. Then you would have to clean everything real good because there is metal shaving's all threw the transmission. See what code's you have then go from there.

Do you have a 1999 SL1 or SL2 I just looked up the part numbers for both and the 1999 SL1 shows one part number the mp6 and the SL2 shows part numbers for both the mp6 and mp7. That's on mitchell on demand I found that information. If you look in your trunk on the driver side pull the carpet back on the spare tire well cover there's a rpo sticker with a bunch of letters and numbers you will see a mp6 or mp7 on your sticker that tells you what came with the car. Also what yr and model did you get the transmission you have in there now?
