Noises problem
1999 Saturn SL1 4 cyl Automatic 132k miles

Have a 99 Saturn SL1 and it rattles really bad. It's not a knock it's a rattle. I took it to AutoZone and they did a diagnostics test and it came back saying EGR Positioning Sensor was messed up. Is this what is making that annoying noise? And they told me I can't just buy the egr positioning sensor I could only buy the EGR valve that already has it.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR valve and see if the rattle goes away. If it doesn't, the EGR is good. You may want to check your fluid levels, especially your engine oil, before replacing anything. Also look around for any loose heat shields, especially heat shield near exhaust.

A bad EGR will normally cause engine surge and erratic idleing.
