1991 Saturn SC1 Transmission stuck in first gear

Transmission problem
1991 Saturn SC1 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 133, xx miles

My tranny is stuck in first gear. I push in the clutch n nothing happens. You can move the shifter from first to second while driving in first gear and it doesnt shift. The shifter moves very easily. The shifter linkage doesnt move. I took off the top of the tranny to see if the linkage was locked up, but it wasnt. Im thinking it could be the synchro. Could u please give me a few tips on what to check and what to do.

Let's start with check the base of the inside shifter see if one of the cables are disconnected. Let me know what you find.

Your were right. The main cable going to the shifter was disconnected. I slipped it back on, but everytime I go through the gears, the cable falls back of. Coming from the shifter is a rubber coated knob and at the end of the cable is a cicular rubber hole. The cable part just slides onto the shifter part. What would u recommend to hold the two together? Also, I havent put everything back together yet, so if thats not the whole fix, I might need more help

They make a repair kit for the cable end they sell them on ebay if you type in saturn shift cables it will come up.I have also seen them on parts store websites if you look under shifter cable's. They come with instruction's how to install them they just snap in. Let me know how it go's and if you have any more question's.

I ended up putting duck tape on it lol. I put everything back together n test drove it. It all works awesome. You rule. Thanks for everything. I was about ready to take it to a shop. Wouldnt know what to do without you. Thanks so much again. I cant thank u enough
