Valve Gasket Repair?

I had my mechanic take a look at my 2001 Saturn SL1
75,000 miles single cam 1.9L engine. He replaced the serpentine belt, did the brakes and oil etc. I had him take a look around for an oil leak I've noticed for about a month now - no problems with the oil pan, but the oil is leaking out of the valve cover down the rear of my engine. He wasn't comfortable fixing it right off the bat which is unusual for him - I wanted to know what the cost of a cracked/blown? Valve gasket repair would be or if that is indeed : the problem. Could it be the needed repair is more extensive? I want to know what it will run me to get it fixed as I am VERY fond of my car and want to keep it in the best shape possible! Thanks!

Hey Alasibhear,

Good for you. Most people let the little things go for so long they become big things.

Prices very for labor depending on what part of the world you are from. I would think the gasket would run between $10 and $30 dollars US. The labor between $40 and $80 dollars US. You should be around $100.00 for the total bill.

I can't imagine why your local shop would hesitate to do such a simple repair unless they are really swamped with work.

Good luck and let us know. :)
