Started going through coolant about 3 days ago. Last night it began to seriously overheat. I suspected a leaking radiator. Since it was night and I was stuck on the road, I put some Leak Fix powder in and filled with water to get me home. Initiallly, after about 3 miles, it hit the red again. I stopped, let it cool down, and put in some more coolant. But not much.

On the way home, it actually went DOWN in temperature. Could this be a stuck thermostat?

Hello,

When an engine overheats, due to excessive pressure many times you will have a leak from a ruptured hose or blown radiator cap. You first check to see where is it leaking from.

One of the common cause of over heating is a stuck thermostat. And yes it can start to work normal again for a little while until it will fail again.

I have attached the diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
