Engine problem
1994 Other Saturn Models 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 200000 miles

The water pump is leaking and I noticed it to be in a tight location - does the engine have to be jacked to replace the water pump?

No need to raise the engine to accomplish the task although I agree as to the tight spot. Pretty common w/ Saturns.

Anyway, you have two choices: You can either work thru the right front wheel well in which case you will need to remove the inner fender splash guard (I use plastic tie-wraps to reinstall if I destroy the plastic fasteners) or you can work from the top where you will have to remove the AC unit (But, DO NOT disconnect any of the hoses!). Either way, like I said, it's a tight spot but doable.

A reputable repair manual is valuable if you really want to do this kind of maintenance. A new Chilton's is about 20 bucks. Well worth it. Good luck.
