2003 SAAB 9-3 repair Question Check Engine Light

The check engine light comes on, even after being turned off by my mechanic. The code is "oxygen sensor". How do I turn this off to pass inspection (other than disconnecting the battery)? Is this a dangerous condition over the short term?

The oxygen sensor needs to be changed, then, there will be no way to bypass, as the oxygen sensor is what sends the whole sensor into "closed loop" what the emission system is based on
