MY FRIEND PUT A NEW POWER STEERING MOTOR IN MY 2009 HHR LS. HE PULLED THE HOLE STEERING WHEEL OUT. THEN TOOK THE STEERING OFF THE SHAFT THEN HE PUT THE NEW MOTOR ON THEN HE PLUG ALL THE WIRES BACK. AND THEN HE PUT THE STEERING BACK IN THE CONSOLE. THEN I TOOK IT FOR A RIDE WORK FINE BUT THE ESC LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS MAKING NOISE. WHEN HE PUT THE STEERING BACK IN COULD THAT KNOCK IT OUT OF ALIGNMENT, AND THAT WY THE ECS LIGHT COME ON.

Because this vehicle has a electric motor to assist steering it has a lot of electronics to identify errors (for safety as you can imagine). Any services done (alignment, steering assist motor any sensor tie-rods etc) to the steering requires resetting the parameters of these sensors. I suspect this required step was not performed. It can only be done with specific equipment. Most up to date alignment machines can do this and of course the Chevrolet dealer has the capabilities. Call around and ask if they have the equipment to recalibrate the steering and or vehicle stability controls. Hope this helps you, TY
