I have put my can into a local workshop for a class 7 mot. I was asked by telephone go give my authority to replace the rear brake discs and pads. I agreed but asked for a faxed quotation. No fax came through. The next day I was called again and asked for authority to replace the handbrake cable. I again agreed and asked for a faxed quotation. Next day I was called again and told that the van is ready to collect. I advised that no fax has been recieved. Within 10 minutes I got a faxed invoice with a bulb £1.69, Brake & Cluth cleaner £3.19, 2x Brake discs £80.20 (for both) set of brake pads £28.47, 2 xhandbrake cables £51.32 (for both) a total of £164.87 for parts. Labour charges of £153 = 3.4 hours @ £45 per hour. To add insult I have been charged £53.80 for the MOT with a £20 brake test.
My question is:
1) How long does the fitting of rear brake discs and pads?
2) How long does it take to fit handbrake cables?
3) Why should I pay £20 for a brake test when a brake test is done at an MOT?
4) Are the parts prices competative or over priced?
Many thanks
