Heater problem

It's apparently a common problem, when I switch on the car, the resurculation flap keeps banging open and shut, for ages. It sometimes stops if I press the resurculation bottom and leave it with the light on, but mostly it just keeps opening and closing with a loud bang every second or so, which is very irritating. Is there a way of simply disabling this permanently without taking the whole dash apart? Thank you very much. Keith, Jemison-Mills
