So my husband drives the 25 mike interstate drive to work and as he gets there the car started to act as if it was going to shut off, and was kind of shaking. After 12 hours he gets off and started car with a loud squeezing sound for several minutes and started to drive it home at 70 miles an hour. He noticed there was no heat also in the morning and still not really any after about halfway home then stated it went from normal to ask the way how and statement out of the front but water pump area and drive about 3-5 miles until he pulled off in town and had a co-worker who passed by help to push the now not driveable can to it was towed home. I resonated the water pump however I'm a woman who started to learn about cars because he works all days I'm only one who has time to get it done so he began to try to get the top side of the motor mount etc. Out of the way when we for to the crankshaft harmonic balancer bolt and couldn't get it off. After much YouTube and few calls to friend Toyota ase mechanic only but phone mind you said I need to get timing can shaft and can sprockets at TDC I believe I did. Water pump replaced filled radiator and overflow tank up when it started it was 5-8 sec. Sounded rough but died and wouldn't state again. So I readjusted the timing again and was able to get fresh oil change done, changed 3 plugs and a coil pack, while I was not out with car his friends poured Seafoam in the catalytic converter and replaced o2 sensor about 1/4 bottle, and I had put remained in gas tank just to clean out some of the carbon buildup I noticed when doing the spark plugs. We did get it to start! AND stay running until the white smoke obviously trying to burn out the extra carbons and it sounded great! My husband accidentally pressed the throttle and it shut off after only 5 or the required minutes 15-20 minute it started to run for the Seafoam to burn out effectively and I can't seem to get it started again. Everyone say timing still and the second time I know the three of us all checked to see if it was lined up and it's not an interference engine ( I leaked that but still don't know I may have skipped one tooth when pulling pin out of the spring tensioner but pretty sure I wasn't and car did run until throttle pressed. I'm at my wits end and need help badly.

Good morning,

When you remove the front cover with the tensioner on, do the marks align like the picture I attached? The rear cam is the hardest to see and be sure it is aligned.

Did the car overheat? Sea foam does nothing to the converter at all. You cannot clean out a cat converter. They make additives but there ineffective in cleaning.

Do you have a vacuum gauge to test engine vacuum while running?

Thank you guys so so much. I checked it as best I could with a mirror on the little extensions the first time I checked it I did believe I was a little bit off and as it is not in a resting position had a small bit of learning experience in holding it still but was able to get it as close as I can see and I checked it from every angle I could possibly get at it with until I learned when doing the back coil pack and spark plugs that I could take off the wiper motor and the exterior dash under the hood which probably would have given me better vision at it but I checked it and had my husband and his friend all make sure that it was at top dead center as best I could the bottom cam shaft itself was what I was more concerned about after seeing a few YouTube videos I did try to make sure that it was back one tooth so that when the spring tensioner was released all the way after I had already tightened it down and had it around the water pump pulley The idler pulley and the tensioner pulley as well as both cam sprockets and camshaft did not pull the pin until I made sure both cam sprockets were at top dead center and again with the rear being as best I could see multiple times before I pulled the pin on the tensioner releasing the spring on to the tensioner pulley on the lower side by the camshaft when I did that I did not personally look to see if it did forward it the one tooth if it is off that would be where it was would that throw off the top as well could that really be the problem I got so frustrated doing any of this work because we've still yet to get that camshaft bolt off, which in turn holds on the harmonic balancer pulley that's attached to my power steering belt Polly and is stopping me from taking off anything additional on the lower side so having had to use all of the old police ensuring that they still were moving correctly and they were tightened down to spec according to the Chiltons book that I purchased for Toyota Sienna's the best I could do and then it did run for the 5 minutes but no matter what when trying to press the throttle whether it be under the hood or inside of the vehicle it kills it every time I do not have a way to check the vacuum lines other than by sight and visual and physical inspection I do Wonder is it a vacuum leak and what am I missing.

I just want to say I really appreciate you guys and the information that you provide to not just me but all the people here on your website by reading other issues people have had their vehicles entire me to ask the question at all I've already asked so many of my friends or friends of friends it has baffled me from a woman who really only could probably change an alternator on one type of vehicle and put oil in or check it and attach a windshield wiper most of the time I've really learned a lot but I'm stuck and so any help you can give me in trouble shooting would be really great I have not been able to check the compression in the cylinders yet either and I cannot understand how to check top dead center by looking into the cylinders themselves

Thank you for the kind words.

That back cam is tough to see and if you are off, it will act like this.

Please feel free to leave a review for us. We appreciate all the good reviews.
