Steering problem
1997 Pontiac Transport 184000 miles

I have owned this van for 5 years years. I have replace this part 4 tmes nd need to do so again. About every 20,000 miles. Is this normal? Is this a typical engineering problem? The mechanic has replaced the part under warranty put I still have to pay $210 for labor each time because it is outside the 6 month 6,000 miles that it starts to leak again. Am I being taken?

A lot depends on the rebuilder of the part(s), try using a better part, and are they flushing out the pump and lines? Could be some metal debris in the fluid.

Last time they replaced it they said that they used a better part and we did flush the power steering fluid. Could it be a problem with the power steering pump?

The pump would need to be pressure tested to answer that, does it whine? Hard to turn? Too easy to turn? Pull to one side? Steering wheel turn by itself in park?
