Hi everyone, I found you through google and I hope you can help me.

1996 Pontiac Sunfire
183,000 miles
2.4 motor

Do I have to raise the motor for access to starter mounting bolts?

My starter is going and want to know if I can switch it myself or take it in.

Thank you so much in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Yes, you can do it. Disconnect the negative battery cable and dig in. Good Luck

Thank you so much. It took my husband and his friend 5 hours of lying on the ground to fix it only to drop 2 parts on his face, spill oil in his face. Only to wind up with a plug no one had any idea where it went lol.

He got it fixed the next day, and I was so proud of him.

Thank you for you help. This is an excellent reference site and I have bookmarked it. Both our vehicles have over 180,000 miles so the repairs keep coming lol.

Have a great day
