1998 Pontiac Sunfire overheating, needs thermostat replaced

I was told that I needed to try to change my thermostat in my 98 sunfire. I am completely clueless as to how to do it. I have never tried to work on a car before and would love to be able to do this on my own without calling daddy. :) But I don't even know what it is or even looks like. Please help!
