Even without the ignition key in the ignition the starter motor continues to turn over?

The purple wire at the starter solenoid S terminal, should not be hot with key off. If it is hot, either a problem with ignition switch or circuit shorted to voltage. If that wire isn't hot and the starter still cranks, look at the starter solenoid.
