I drove the car for 2 years with no problems. This morning I started it and backed out them shifted into drive and the speedometer wasnt working and the car would not shift out of first gear

Sound like a speed sensor problem or wiring to it. The transmission is put into failsafe mode when there is no signal on how fast the car is moving.

See what codes are in the computer or you might be able to ohm out the sensor ans see if it is spec.
