Engine Performance problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Automatic 214683 miles

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with 214683 miles. It has a 2.2 L engine. The vehicle has a rough idle and codes that reveal "rapid misfire". I have changed the plugs and did not correct issue.

What was the actual code? Was it cylinder specific? Fuel-- spark-- compression?

Random misfire code, could be almost anything. You may need to have somebody use a scanner that can show misfire data, see if one cylinder is misfiring worse than the others, start with that cylinder. You might check the crank sensor reluctor wheel, also check fuel pressure, with a gage. Spark at all plugs, injector pulse.
