2000 Pontiac Grand Am P0440 code

Checked the computer and it is coming up with a p0440 and p0440 pending code with the cat flashing on the scanner. Do you know what could be causing this problem?

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere in the evaporative system. The first and most common reason this code comes up is a loose or missing gas cap. Check that first. A mechanic can do a smoke test to find the leak if it isn't as easy as the gas cap.

Previously had the car smoked and they found that the vent valve was leaking that was new at the time to. Previously had a p0440 and p0442 code. Changed the valve and gas cap but still have a p0440 code. Thank you for the reply.
