My transmission started acting up just a couple of days ago, I drove over to my friends house fine when I backed out and then stepped onto the brake to put the car into drive it did not ingage, I thought thats strange, but I was able to get it to go. Into 1st gear and shift my way to drive once I was at a stop again it wouldn't engage into drive so I would have to shift into 1st again? What does this mean? How much is it?

If the tranny shifts fine once you are actually driving, then it's probably a shift linkage problem. I have no idea what it would cost without knowing for sure what is wrong with it.
