1996 Pontiac Grand Am Rough Idle

1996 Pontiac Grand Am - Its difficult to start and when it does it idles roughly. Interior and exterior lights surge, RPM's fluctuate 400-700, sounds and feels like it will stall. When pressure is applied to the accelerator it does not hesitate. New plugs and wires were put on 8000 km prior to this.

Hi:
I suggest starting with having the alt and voltage regulator checked. Many parts stores will check it on the car for free. So there is no out of pocket expense.

Let me know what you find.
