Can too much oil (2 quarts) destroy the lifters in my son's car. Plugs have been changed, but it still makes a clicking noise.

too much oil can blow out seals, would advise to bring the oil level down to where it is suppose to be. the lifters do tap at times, would have the tapping checked and adjusting if needed.
