2000 Pontiac Firebird security theft lock system

Everytime I put the key in the ignetion the security light comes on and the car wont start. I have to wait 3 or 4 minutes till the security light goes off and try to start the car. This goes on about 5 or 6 times and then the car will start. What is causing this problem?

It could be a sensor, the key. I hate to say it, but it could be several things. The worse part is the only people that will have the proper test equipment to check it is a dealer.
