Hi,
Just recently I went to start my firebird and it would not turn over. I put my key in and everything works fine, theres lots of power there but it will not turn over and the security light comes on. I did some research and found out that it could be my Pass Key so I cleaned it and retryed starting the vehicle but the same thing happened. A couple times when i've been driving the security light has come on but it has gone off after about 5 min of driving. Also just recently I have installed a aftermarket stereo deck do you think this may have anything to do with it? I dont know if it is just coincidence but the security light never came on before I put the new stereo deck in. My key appears to be in good condition so I don't believe that is the problem. Any ideas? I hear that sometimes repairs can be costly with this type of problem, is there a way I can override this safety feature and save a few bucks?

In a 2000, the stereo shouldn't have hurt anything. As far as the no start, you're right. It is the security system. The good news is you know where the problem is coming from. THe bad news is the only place that has the equipment to check it is a dealer. It can be bypassed, but the dealer has to do it.

I wish I had better news for you, but that is the bottom line.

Let me know if you have other questions. Also, if you turn the key to the run position and allow it to sit on for 10+ minutes before trying to start it, that should bypass the system. However, that is not a fix.

I have tried leaving the key in the on position for 10+ minutes but that didn't do anything. Is there anything else I can try or is bringing it in the only option? Thanks,
Derek

Derek:
That should overide the system. If it doesn't, I hate to say it but a dealer is going to be the only choice. They are the only ones with the proper equipment to test it.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but that is the bottom line.
