I'm looking at a 1996 pontiac firebird. This car is in great shape, but i'm concerned with the mileage, it has 154472 miles on a 3.8 series II v6.
Is this to many miles for that motor? In your opinion would it be a headache waiting to happen?
Thanks,
James

The motor should be good for another 30,000 40,000 miles. V6 engines tend to hold up better with age than v8's because V6 engines don't work as hard as V8's. Usually a car's engine nears the end of it's usefull life at 190,000 to 200,000 miles at witch time a complete rebuild or engine swap is needed. However with regular maintenance, oil changes, tune ups ect, the engine could run well past 200,000 miles. If there are no major problems with the car, I don't see a reason not to purchase it.
