Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Pontiac Firebird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 119k miles

I was driving down the road and the car suddenly shut down. I was traveling at about 35 miles an hour. It shut right down no sputtering no bogging. I changed the coil in this car about five years ago. I have heard the horror stories of the fuel pump so I am wondering what other electrical parts I can check first. Also I have heard it mentioned that you can access the fuel tank to remove the pump by cutting a hole in the hatch area, comments on this would be appreciated as well.

Have you checked to see if it's getting spark or fuel to the engine? It may not be the pump. As far as cutting holes in the body, I wouldn't recommend it. The tank should be removed.

Here is a how to for checking fuel pressure.

Let me know what you find.
