1993 Pontiac Bonneville Fast Idle

Thinking of buying the above car for a whopping $500. Inspection good until Mar 2009. Owner says it just began to idle fast intermittently and the engine light comes on. Idles up to 2000 RPM but not all the time. Buying for my disabled brother - we are not car buffs.

Well since the check engine light is on, that is a indication of a problem and since that happened when the idle went up I woudl definetely take it in and have it scanned, auto zone does for free.

Post back what you find with it so we can further go into this.

Thank you sooo much for the quick response. Was stood up this AM for the test drive. He sold it last night after having rec'd 77 calls. Curious, though. If the engine light had not lit, would you have assumed the EGR?
