I just brought a new battery and the car has been sitting up for awhile but I should have started all the lights come on but it just wont even try to start so what could be the problem

Welcome to the forum. The purple wire at the starter solenoid, should be hot, with the key in the start position. If it isn't hot, possibilities, ignition switch-- neutral switch-- theft/security system-- wiring circuit-- starter itself. All battery connections are good?
