When you first start vehicle and put it in reverse, you have to wait before it shifts into reverse. Once this happens and you put it in reverse, it works fine.

14,000 miles? On the tranny?

It's probably ready for a rebuild.

You can attempt a couple of fixes, but probably too late. The filters should be changed every 15000 on these and it take atf+4 fluid. These fail too often from lack of mantenance.

You can try a filter and fluid change or trying and additive, but I wouldn't expect anything promising.
