Engine problem
1995 Other Plymouth Models 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 110480 miles

a while back I had a belt snapp which screwed my power steering. And now my car wont start at all. I charged my battery and its still good, Auto Zone said it was my altenator. I dont kow if its my alternator cause with a missing belt I dont kow if that belt runs through the alternator. I eitehr have to buy one of those or a belt but im not too sure and I dont wanna waste alot of money on the wrong part. When I used teh heat and braked my battery service engine light always came on. So my question is. Do I need an alternator, or is my alternator still good and I just need to piyt a belt on it to get it running? Cause it turns over a bit, you cna hear it click and otehr than that it wont start at all. Im not a car know it al, and I know a little bit. Someone please answer my question, please.

Put a belt on-adjust it properly-get a voltmeter hook up to the battery-start the car and read the meter-it should be reading 13.5-15.5 volts if this is what you're getting your alternator is good.
