I installed a trailer hitch and bought an OEM wiring kit which I installed as instructed. The tester I've used on it shows that it is working, but the car now sometimes won't respond to giving it gas or it over revs from a complete stop. Wondering if there is electronics being used when applying gas that could somehow be affected by wiring of the hitch.

Hi Jim,

I included the description and operation of the OEM trailer tow which is basically what you have because the hitch is just a hitch but the wiring is what is important. Does this issue happen when towing, not towing, both?

As you will see this is purely just lighting circuits and they don't tie into any operation of the accelerator. This ties into the body controller which is like the brains of the vehicle so I guess it could be possible but I would highly doubt it.

Something you could do is, just unhook the connectors that you installed and not remove the wiring harness completely, just unhook it so that it is not operational any more and see if the issue goes away. This is not conclusive but at least it will give you a variable that you are changing.

What I would suggest is to check and see if there are any codes in the computer but worst case scenario, it looks like you are still under warranty. So if you can duplicate the issue or now how long it takes to duplicate, I would take into the dealer and have them check it out. Worst case, they tell you it is related to the harness and you find out for sure. Best case, they duplicate it and find my suspicions are correct and it is something unrelated.

If you have more questions let me know. Also, if you want can you send me the directions that came with the harness and I will take a look at those as well?
