Overheating

It is overheating and when I turn the heater on it drops the temperature gauge back down to normal. My coolant is at the proper levels and is not leaking anywhere. It will repeat this after about five minutes or so.

check to see if your coolant fan fuse is blown or a relay bad, the fans may not be working. it cold be a bad radiator as well if you feel cold spots in rad anytime it is warmed up then the radiator is bad should be same temperature all over. Make sure engine is off and fans disabled before checking though.
