I have a 1982 delta 88, it has 89,000 miles on it and for some reason the car wont move if I put it in drive, reverse or any other gear. But it starts right up. I had someone looked at it and said that it was the torque converter, I wanted to know what is making this problem and how can I fix it

-thank you

Hi there,

You say no drive, will it make any attempt to move, are the engine revs dropping when in gear? If not check that the transmission is actually going into gear, have someone move the selector and try to see the transmission selector moving at the box. (DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING) if the box is selecting internally, check trans has oil. If box is selection and there is oil then the problem will be internal in the transmission. Note Remove access cover for torque converter bolts, turn engine by hand and make sure drive plate has not broken, If this was broken you would tend to hear a noise, but it is worth looking at to eliminate as a cause.
