I was driving for atleast 5 miles after I heard a knocking noise in my 4cyl 01 Alero. The speed reduce to 65 mph. I have an oil leak and it got to me. My car knocks when it starts up. I put 3 quarts of oil in the engine. It not as loud but you can still hear the knocking noise. It moves but it knocks, it has 100,000 miles on it. What can I do to fix the problem? :(

Hi there,

Sorry, but there is no magic cure, the noise is the failure of a bearing on the crank shaft, When you ran out of oil, the bearing has been damaged to the point where it will soon overheat and seize or something will break. A full re build is required or a cheaper option is a second hand unit.
