95 olds Cutlass oil problem

I have a 95 olds cutlass, 3.1 litre with about 110,000 miles. It was sitting for about 8 months. It started fine but while the car was running I checked the oil dip stick and the level was almost at the top of the stick. I know the oil level was normal before I put it out to sit for awhile. I was wondering what this could mean.

Is there anything unusual other than the level?
How long did you run it? It may have just been from a complete drain down that wouldn't normally happen over a real short time is my guess if it looks and smells normal.

I would drain it and replace it before getting it back going again anyways.

I response to the answer I was just given. The car ran for about five minutes or so. The oil looked fine and smelled fine. There was nothing else unusual about it. The oil light never came on either. I started it twice for about 5 minutes both times and it was the same for both times.
