2001 Oldsmobile Aurora Engine Problem

Hello

I am having a problem with a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, 6 cylinder. We get a check engine light and when checked the code comes back to a problem in the Secondary Air Injector Sensor. The car has the symptoms of the RPM gage going crazy and holding around the 8000 RPM range when it is clear to see that the engine is not running that fast. The car will also die on an idle down and occasionally jerks as you are driving.

I have come to believe that it is an oxygen sensor and if it is, could you please tell me how to locate those?

Thanks

You Oxygen sensor will NOT cause any of the problems you described.

It sounds as though you have more than one issue going on.
First:
The secondary air-injector will not cause any drivability problems, but it will cause you to fail an emissions test.

There are several things that can cause this trouble code to be set. So you have to have a mechanic properly diagnose the system.

As far as the tach jumping to 8000 while the engine is clearly not reving that high:
You have a crankshaft-speed and camshaft-speed sensor that tells your computer how fast the motor is turning. One of these sensors can be bad, there can be a short in the wiring to one or more of these sensors, or the computer itself can be going bad.

You must have a mechanic perform a proper diagnosis.

If you car is dieing at idle and jerk during take off, then it probably is a sensor, but it WILL NOT be your oxygen sensor that will cause this.

*** Not to say you don't have a bad oxygen sensor, but it won't cause any of these problems***
