Engine problem
1998 Other Oldsmobile Models Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 10000 miles

I have an Oldmobile 88-Year 1998 (with a little over 100,000 miles), and I was driving home from the holidays-and as I neared my home it started idling really rough and the check engine light began blinking. I live in MN and it's really cold, but the temp gauge-fluid levels, and everything else on my car were normal. I managed to get it into my parking lot, but my car shut off. Now it idles and cranks, but it doesn't turn over. I have yet to hook up an ODB-II reader to it to figure out what the code is. The only thing that I could have done to cause any problems would be having to back out of a large pile of snow and strain my engine because I got stuck. It was running fine, but after I drove it a few miles to my house it began idling rough, the check engine light came on, and then it shut off. Could it possibly be the timing belt? I know I have to take it in, but I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem could be.

Thank you!

How m8uch snow did you back up thru? Maybe a small pile went into the exhaust? Check the muffler for water! You may even have bent a pipe. Restrictions in the exhaust can cause your syntoms!

Actually unfortunately it's not that simple :-( I wish it were though. After talking to a few people about it -it could possibly be my thermostat? I don't know.

If you have ruled that out, lets read the codes! When the MIL flashes, it mean damage to the converter can be occuring. At this point, it may already have.
