Noises problem
1989 Other Oldsmobile Models 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 75K miles

89 olds 98 3800SFI V6 75K miles. Engine makes rapping/knocking noise at idle in park. Increase idle speed, noise dies down. Place car in gear D or R, noise louder. Use AC and/or pwr steering noise louder. Altenator load increases, noise louder. Removed serpentine belt, started engine, noise gone!Replaced belt on engine and noticed that pulley on balancer rotates while engine is off. Is this normal?

No!Not normal. Sounds like the balancer is bad. The center is made of rubber, will deteriate. Replace it and see what happens. If ive helped or can help, please reply. Dunc
