1989 Other Oldsmobile Models check engine light

I have a 1989 Olds 98 regency. My cars amp light came on and off for a week or so but ran fine. Then one night the amp light was on and the sevice engine light came on and the car died. I replaced the altenator and the amp light has gone away but what might be causing the service engine light?

Pull the OBD1 code/s from the computer and comeback with it-

Retrieve and count the flashes
