My '85 Cutlass idles a lot higher than it should when in park and when I brake hard it stalls and dies. Can you tell me how to fix this problem? And, just so you know, I have replaced the carb on it with a later model that does not have the computer sensors.

You will need to check the operation of the choke coil and the choke pull off but more likely if you cant fix it by adjusting it then it will need overhauling. I check the choke pull off by removing the vacuum line to it and push in the plunger and put your finger on the vacuum port then release the plunger and it should stay in, if it comes right out then you will need to replace it bec ause the diaphram inside has ruptured.
