I know I have to replace the wheel bearings in the front. But the other day I was going somewhere and I heard a metal on metal rubbing and grinding sound. I turned around and noticed that the odometer was flashing. It's exact sequence was 2 flashes stop, 2 flashes stop, repeatedly. I only went 30 MPH at fastest to get home. After about 20-25 minutes it stopped flashing and the noise was reduced to a lower level of sound. My biggest question is, what was my odometer flashing for?

Hi,

Was the noise coming from the front? There are wheel speed sensors on the front. If the wheel bearing is bad enough, it could be allowing the wheel speed sensor to touch the reluctor. See pic 1 below. What I need you to do is check the item I highlighted and see if there is evidence of something rubbing against it. I circled the speed sensor in the pic. See if it seems damaged. (Both front wheels have these, so check both).

Let me know.

Joe
