Lost key to my car. Popped out switch and installed new one. New switch had normal key. Now a red light just blinks on the right side of panel by the temperature gauge. When try to start it does nothing. Makes no noise or anything.

Hello,

It sounds like the car isn't recognizing the new key and the security system is now active. When you say normal key what do you mean is it different type than the one you lost? A lot of keys these days have a part of them that the ignition reads. The red light is related to the security system. So you are getting no other lights on the dash also? You will also need to look at the door lock part of the system. Did your car have a different key on for the doors or a fob that was also lost with it because locking and unlocking the doors should turn off the alarm which may straighten out the problem.

Is the security light blinking when you try to crank the engine over? This guide can help you reset the security system?

Let me know.
